Nick's cancer is resectable, meaning it can be removed by surgery. This was the best possible outcome given the circumstances. The surgery is scheduled for next week. The poor baby suffered 2 skull fractures and bleeding on the brain. This happened at 3:30 or so in the afternoon, and the parents weren't notified until they picked him up at 6:30 that night. The baby didn't make it to the hospital until later that evening because they were told it was no big deal. Once home they noticed his head was swollen, he was running a fever, and his head felt like a sponge. We will be traveling to Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN next week for additional tests and to determine the best course of action. We don't know how long we'll need to stay in Rochester or what to expect at this point. Since we live and work in Des Moines this will make circumstances even more difficult. She was admitted to Mercy Hospital with a brain stem bleed Wednesday afternoon. She is in critical condition and the next 48 hours will determine her chances for survival.
