Double Hope Primary School and OrphanageDouble Hope Church is in the village of Idudi, Uganda in Africa.

Julius and Sarah Suubi, pastor, headmistress and teachers of Double Hope borrowed $90 to start a school and orphanage, the ministry they felt led by God even amongst great difficulty. Their faith and constant prayers have been answered repeatedly as God has provided for the needs of the children and families of Double Hope. Julius and Sarah are a couple with five children who have amazing vision and a hunger to serve the Lord.

Lighthouse first became associated with Double Hope when Josh and Christy Hixson traveled to Uganda when seeking to expand their family. Josh and Christy came home not only with two beautiful children, but with a desire in their heart to support Julius and Sarah’s dream to grow Double Hope.

They shared the story of Double Hope with the LCC family and money was provided to build three very rustic buildings for classrooms. This was in 2014 and over the years since LCC has taken a visionary and two mission trips to Double Hope.

Since then, LCC has been able to assist in providing funds to build two classrooms/dormitories for the children with the second one being completed in late June. A latrine, kitchen, security fence and a well for water have been build with funds provided by LCC members. The well provides water for Double Hope and many families in the neighborhood.

During mission trips we have had the opportunities to build beds as well as providing mattresses and sheets for the children. Team members built a chicken coop, shelves, and tables for use at the school. A garden was planted to assist in providing food. A medical clinic for over 300 people was held over two days in coordination with local doctors and nurses.

The last trip in January 2019 focused on leadership and spiritual training as well as educational and health learning opportunities. LCC global missions made the decision to team with Empowering Education International (EEI) which is led by Sean Warner. Sean was on the last two trips and is assisting and guiding us as we work with Julius and Sarah in making long range plans and projects we can work alongside them. Also, EEI has assisted LLC with setting up sponsorships of 33 children at DH.

There are currently 249 children from about 205 families being served by the school. There are 38 kids that live at the school full time. Seventy families attend the church and currently the children are leading praise and worship portion of the Sunday services.

They have several cows and goats of which have recently had more babies and they would like to continue to grow their herd.

Pray request are for a keyboard and/or piano, more animals and to purchase more land, specifically a lot currently next to DH for expansion. Future plans are to build one to two more classrooms as well as a building to be utilized as church and gymnasium.

We would love to have another mission trip to Uganda in the next year, but Covid has presented safety and travel issues. Please pray for our dear friends at Double Hope as they recently have gone under a second lock down due to Covid. This make things difficult for them as no one can work and with no income it is exceedingly difficult for the families to eat. The sponsorship money for the children is used to assist with the purchase of food to assist in feeding over 400 people that are associated with the school. LCC was able to serve by providing food for these families during the last year as Covid has kept people there from working for many months. The money we have provided for building the classroom has also allowed opportunity for jobs for many people.

You can follow Double Hope on Facebook at Double Hope for Orphans and Needy to see photos and stories. There are so many wonderful children, teachers and parents at Double Hope that greatly appreciate LCC for not only their financial assistance, but for the love, pray and support they receive from us. We have met so many happy and loving children who grab your hands as well as your heart when you see them.

God has brought together two church families from halfway around the world and with social media and trips there we have grown as brothers and sisters in Christ. It is hard to explain how blessed it is to be in the presence of them and to see how happy and loving they are during so much hardship.

Please see Joe White or Cindy Hendrickson, co-leaders of global missions if you have questions or would like to become more involved with Double Hope. You can also contact Sean Warner via the Empowering Education International website if you are interested in learning more regarding sponsoring a child or seeking other ways to assist Double Hope.
